The Complete Disney Villainous Buyers Guide

What is Disney Villainous?

Disney Villainous the board game is designed by Prospero Hall and published by Ravensburger & Wonder Forge in 2018. In Villainous, you become one of the villains in the Disney universe and are tasked with performing your villainous plans. However, your opponent is also trying to do the same, but in a different realm. The player who completes their task first wins the game.

Villainous is easy to learn 2-4 player game that takes around 50 minutes to play (depending on the number of players). Each character has a different win condition ranging from defeating a hero like Peter Pan to controlling multiple allies. Each character plays very differently due to the win condition and also the personalized deck that they come with.

Each villain also has their unique fate deck that the opponent can unleash on you. Giving you the ability to slow down your opponent before they win their game. They can choose from a selection of heroes, effects, or items to make it more difficult for you. Heroes will block certain actions for you, needing you to first defeat them before gaining those actions back.

What do I need to get started?

Disney Villainous is very easy to get started with. Disney Villainous has two versions that you can buy. A core game and/or an expansion.

A core game will get you up and running in no time. It includes 6 characters with their corresponding items. A lot of power tokens and some more tokens that are needed for the characters. The base set provides the most value for its price.

You can also get up and running with an expansion. Expansions are able to be played as standalone games. It includes 3 characters with their corresponding items. A lot of power tokens and any more tokens that are needed for the characters.

If you have the money for it, then I'll always suggest the core game. It's the most value that you'll get for your money. However, if you don't like the characters in the core set, there is nothing holding you back to buy an expansion and getting started that way. It might be an even better way to get to know the game before going all in.

Are the expansions worth it?

One quick answer. Yes, the expansions are worth it if you already like the game. Each character in the expansions is totally different due to the cards and the win condition. And there are so many characters that totally change the fundaments of the game. There is a villain that doesn't start with one fate deck, but with four fate decks on each location. Another villain has two ways of winning the game, depending on actions throughout the game.

If you like the core game and want to expand your collection, then the expansions are a great way of doing that! Check the characters that are included in the expansions and pick the expansion with your favorite villains! Or check this guide and see what characters are the strongest!

What expansions are available?

There are currently five expansions for Disney Villainous:
